Eady Updates

by Bonnie Smith

Well, it is hard to believe that we are already partially through September and what a lovely fall we have had. We had a great summer as well, especially for doing outdoor activities with the dry, hot weather we had. Perhaps a little too hot and dry in my opinion (from the fact that my lawn got totally destroyed and has not yet come back to life!) but we shouldn’t complain too much as we know what is coming, around the corner!

Our community was saddened to hear of the passing of Rob Gray on May 26, 2025 at the age of 54, after a three-year battle with ALS. Rob was formerly of Moonstone and a long-time resident of Eady. Our condolences are extended to his wife, Amanda, his mother, Lillian Gray of Moonstone, brother Steven of B.C., sister Majorie of Moonstone, and many nieces and nephews. Rob will be greatly missed by his many family, friends, and neighbours.

The Eady-Grenard Women’s Institute (W.I.) held its September meeting on Wednesday, September 10 at the home of Valerie Hamilton in Moonstone with approximately eight members present. It was an afternoon of great fun and fellowship and was enjoyed by all who were present.

The Wesley Eady United Church will be holding its annual “take out” Roast Beef Supper on Saturday, October 25. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by calling Joanne Richardson at 705-345.-896, Helen Bell at 705-835-6322 or Joanne Tinney at 705-835-5335.

A special Remembrance Day Service will be held at St. George Anglican Church, Fairvalley on Sunday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m. with Bishop Riscylla Shaw of the Anglican Diocese of Toronto in attendance. This service will involve participation in the service of some of the Regiments, laying of wreaths by the OPP, RCMP, RCMP Veterans, Grey and Simcoe Foresters, Coldwater Legion, and Federal, Provincial and Local governments. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Save the Date! Do you or someone in your family have a talent that they would like to share with us? The Eady Community Hall Board is looking for talent for its “Annual Old Time Country Christmas Concert” which is being planned for Saturday, December 13 beginning at 7 p.m. sharp.

The Christmas Concert has not been held since the days of “Covid”, so we are excited to see it come to life again! We are looking for children (any age) who will participate in “the parade” at the start of the concert. We are also looking for children (any age!) and adults (any age!) who can sing a song or two, dance a routine, recite a poem, do a skit, play a musical instrument—guitar, piano, flute, spoons, or whatever other talent you may have!!  Our concert is not “professional”, so do not hang back if you feel that you aren’t good enough.  We would welcome your talent!

If you don’t have a talent to share, please let your friends and neighbours know about our concert and that we are looking for talent acts. Please send your name, contact information and the “type of act/s” you have to share to eadycommunityhall@gmail.com. If you have any questions about the concert, please also email us. We would love to hear from you! More about this in the December issue.

Are you or someone in your family wanting to host a special birthday, anniversary, a wedding, a baby or bridal shower, fundraising event, seminar, have a dance, or hold a meeting? Our beautiful two-storey century old hall can accommodate you. The Eady Community Hall is available for daily or weekly/monthly recurring rentals at very reasonable rates. Please contact eadycommunityhall@gmail.com for rental rates, more information, or to have a tour.  You may also call Oro-Medonte Township at 705-487-2171 and ask for Courtney.

If you have anything you would like to share with our readers, such as a special celebration or special vacation that you took with your family, or an upcoming event that you would like mentioned in this column, please contact me at 705-835-0006.  We would love to hear from you.
