Rugby Country Store and Marketplace in Support of Rugby Hall-submitted
A pop-up shopping experience featuring local artisans and entrepreneurs with seasonal décor, pottery, quilting, cards, soap, vintage items, produce, knitting, preserves and more is coming once again to Rugby Hall.
SS#9, Rugby Schoolhouse was built in 1872 for students in this rural farming community. Then in 1963 East Oro School was built to consolidate the various smaller, country schools.
Neighbours chatting thought it would be a good idea to purchase the former Rugby School to use as a community hall. They canvassed and asked for donations, and when the school came up for auction, the bid was accepted. SOLD!
Fast forward sixty years, and the Rugby Hall remains a central hub of this area. Volunteers in the community fundraise to pay utilities, upkeep and maintenance. Activities at the hall include Chili Fest, yoga classes, barbecues and more. The hall is also rented out for many different occasions.
As with every community, families come and go, but the Rural Rule prevails: “Care About Your Neighbours”.
Consider taking a drive out along Old Barrie Road, see the fall colours, and stop in at 1911 Old Barrie Rd E, Rugby Community Hall, to browse and purchase some special items. The Rugby Country Store and Marketplace is open October 4 and 5 from 9 am to 4 pm.
