Carley Hall Updates

by Kelly Skinner-Meyer

Spring has arrived, and although the weather remains unpredictable, Carley Community Hall is busy preparing for our annual Pancake Breakfast on April 18, 2026. Unfortunately, our pancake breakfast was canceled last April due to the unwelcome ice storm. So, fingers crossed, we will have everyone back this year.

We are pleased to announce that Backwoods Maple Syrup is once again donating their delicious syrup for this event. We highly recommend their products, which are available at 1664 Anderson Line, just outside of Coldwater. You can also visit backwoodsmaplesyrup.ca or call 705-790-6509 to book an appointment.

The Pancake Breakfast will take place at Carley Hall, located at 396 Warminster Sd. Rd., Oro-Medonte Township, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Service is on a first-come, first-served basis. The menu includes pancakes with Backwoods Maple Syrup, sausages, coffee, tea, and juice. Please note that this is a cash-only event.

 Ages 10 and over: $10  /  Ages 9 and under: $5 (kid’s meal)

In other news, the Carley Community Hall floor is currently being refurbished. As one of only four Heritage Designated buildings in Oro-Medonte, we take great pride in maintaining its historical significance. This work is made possible by the Oro-Medonte Recreation, Parks and Facilities staff. We would like to send a special thank you to Jordan, Josh, Jason, Jodi, Roz, and Jamie for their hard work and for respecting the historical importance of the hall.

Carley Hall has been a popular rental spot. Every weekend in March has been booked with birthday parties, anniversaries and family reunions. If you have a special event and need a beautiful country hall, fully equipped with a kitchen, tables, and chairs for 60, plus more room for standing—up to 85 people, please contact us at carleycommunityhall.com or Oro-Medonte Township to book, jknechtel@oro-medonte.ca.

We are pleased to welcome back one of our previous board members, Kathryn Peet, who has kindly stepped in to fill our Vice Chair position on the Board. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge about our hall and community. Kathryn was responsible for writing our application and securing our Trillium grant back in 2011. We are pleased you’re back, Kathryn!

We welcome any members of our community to volunteer at the Carley Community Hall. Please let us know if you’re interested by emailing us at carleycommunityhall.com.

I love the spring! And as I write this snow is still on the ground. This winter seems to have been long and arduous. But I came across this quote that says it all for me:

“Spring is a season of second chances, where nature proves that no matter how harsh the winter, beauty will return.”

Now, I’m not saying there is not beauty in the winter, but a little colour on the canvas and a fresh change brings your senses to life; like my beautiful pink peonies starting to grow, the chirp of the robins, green grass beneath your toes and the smell of lilacs in the air… all that is pretty nice, don’t you agree?

Until next time, enjoy the change of season!
