Carley Community Hall Updates

—by Kelly Skinner-Meyer

Spring has arrived gradually here, with temperatures still in the single digits. While the frost last night may have affected the peony buds in my garden, I am hopeful for warmer days ahead.

The Carley Community Hall had an incredible turnout for our annual pancake breakfast. We served guests from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. without a break, and we would like to thank Backwoods Maple Syrup for donating their delicious syrup. I also want to thank our amazing volunteers, ranging in age from 7 to 75, for their hard work.

The Carley community spirit is alive and well in the valley. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped raise funds. We look forward to seeing you at future events, including our Christmas Craft Sale in November; please look for upcoming articles for more information.

We are planning several new projects using the funds raised, such as painting the interior of the main hall and performing general upkeep. As our hall is a heritage building built in 1912, consistent maintenance is key to preserving its integrity.

Rentals for baby showers, anniversaries, family reunions, and weddings are booking up quickly. If you have an upcoming event to celebrate, please keep us in mind and email carleycommunityhall.com for booking inquiries.

The Carley Hall is booked to celebrate my mom, Carol Chapman (Wright) on her 90th Birthday Celebration in June. She actually turned 90 in April but the family is reuniting from many places to celebrate this huge milestone. She has been a volunteer at the Carley Hall for many years. She sat at the door at every function, greeted everyone, and managed the funds. She booked rentals for the Hall, handled booking crafters for our Christmas Craft show, and was always a welcomed presence and ray of sunshine. She has now retired from our Carley Hall board. We all wish her a Happy 90th Birthday and a thank you for her years of service as a volunteer.

I have spoken about the importance of volunteers in the past, the significance and incredible gift of giving without any monetary gain. I love the quote by Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed its the only thing that ever has.”

So, if you want to volunteer to make a difference, let us know!

Until next time, good luck planting, keep the spring in your step, the sunshine in your heart and remember the sunscreen!
