Coldwater Communique

The Magical World of Faeries, held on August 15, was a celebration of the beauty of the fey world, with many fairies of all ages attending. The centre was the Fairy Garden, which is a must-see if you love plants, fairies, or both. The fairy godmother was there also! Next year’s version should be even more mystical and magical. Among the fun things were professional fairy performers, watercolour painting classes, a scavenger hunt, and a Fairy Costume Contest. A magical time was had by all of our fairy folk.
August 16 was the annual Magical World of Witchcraft and Wizardry, celebrating magic with a nod to the world of Harry Potter. The festival featured live music, a vendor market filled with magical wares, and a costume contest. This family-friendly event included free crafts. Participants were sorted into Canada’s new Wizarding School by visiting the Sorting Hat to confirm their Wizarding House. There were many more attractions, and next year will be even better. Stay tuned…

The Coldwater Steampunk Festival returned this year under a new planning team, as “Coldwater Steampunk Festival and Oddity Days”. In addition to the costumes, which ranged from the fanciful to the incredible, there were death-defying feats by aerialists, and a trick pogo stick entertainer. There was a surprise around every corner! Kudos to Phill Holder and the Steam Team for putting it all together. It was an excellent day.

This past summer, the Severn Township Public Library on Coldwater Road held a six-week program for children. There were 32 children who read an incredible amount! The annual TD Summer Reading Program was a load of fun with special guests from Scales Park, astronomer Ian Wheelband, and our First Responders: Severn Fire, Simcoe County EMT and the OPP. In addition, participants enjoyed a visit to the Coldwater Mill.
Thank you to the many, many Coldwater businesses that contributed money, prizes and time to this amazing program. Your support is so very appreciated.
