Coldwater Communique

June and July 2024 Events

by Lois Rooney-Giurin

Coldwater is emerging from its winter coziness into full-on summer with many events planned for the next few months.

Firstly, and most important to many, the ice cream store and the fry stand are open again! This is a true harbinger of summer in our small village.

June 15 at 1 pm, you can learn about growing a Bee and Butterfly Garden at the Severn Library. These are environmentally healthy, easy to care for and lovely – the perfect garden! Free event.

Beginning in June, the Library is open from 10 am until 7 pm.

June 22 and 23, come out to our area for the Coldwater Studio Tour, https://coldwaterstudiotour.com/.

July 13 is Discover Coldwater Day – come on out and see what we’re all about!

At the Severn Library, on Wednesday, July 17, please join us for Scales Nature Park. This event is open to all and children are encouraged to attend. Even better, it’s free!

July 20 is Woodrow Family Farm Day – and Christmas in July at the Library! St. Nick is vacationing in the Muskokas again this summer and has tentatively booked July 20 to come to the Severn Library. (Confirm the date before you come).

Moving into August, there will be a Teddy Bears’ Picnic on August 10, 10 am, at the Severn library. Children of all ages are invited to bring their Teddy Bears to the picnic. Bring as many as you can keep track of (remember, they run around) and wear a disguise!

The Wonderful World of Witchcraft and Wizardry will be returning on August 17. Events throughout the Village will delight all with the magic of the wizarding world.

At the Coldwater Canadiana Museum, on August 24, enjoy the Craft and Trade Day. For more information, go to coldwatermuseum.com and check out the history of this event. If you haven’t seen this museum, it’s time!

Also in the Heritage vein, if you haven’t been to the Coldwater Mill, you are missing out on a wonderful experience. Breathtaking quilts and displays celebrating the importance of mills in our nation’s history are just a few of the things to see. The Mill is open now until Thanksgiving.

The Local Artisan Boutique is open again this year with gorgeous items hand crafted by local artists. If you visit on Friday, the Cutest Lil’ Farmers’ Market will be open with fresh baking, local produce, maple syrup and handmade crafts. This market runs from 3 pm to 7 pm, from early June until Thanksgiving.

In the Musical Barn behind the Mill, local musicians will perform from 7 pm to 9 pm on Saturdays, beginning in August.

These are the events planned at this point, but there will be more added – check out our Facebook pages and websites for up-to-date information.

Don’t forget the Caring Closet at the Presbyterian Church on Gray Street, and the Food Bank at the United Church on Harriet Street – they can always use your donations. There are people in need even in Coldwater.

See you in Coldwater this summer!
