Eady Updates by Bonnie Smith
Community events and holiday fun

What a lovely fall we had this year! And now, it looks like mother nature is preparing us all for a blustery, snowy winter with its early showings of snow! At the very least, the weather is trying to get us all into the Christmas spirit!
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful trip to Lisbon, Portugal and parts of Spain, and I was amazed at the stunning Christmas decorations that were being put up throughout their streets. Not only are their main streets decorated with lights, but so are their side streets. They really do go all out in Christmas decorating!
I was not able to see them lit but I can only imagine how beautiful they would be. Here, lights and decorations are starting to pop up, and stores are getting busier with people looking for gifts to buy. Christmas “ads” are starting to flood our mailboxes with the “specials” that the stores are hoping we might want! Christmas events are being planned and soon we will be ringing in another new year. It’s amazing how the year seems to have flown by once again.
The Wesley Eady United Church held its annual “take out” Roast Beef Supper on Saturday, October 25 with a great turn-out. It is always nice to “pick up” your already prepared hot supper to take home and enjoy and we are fortunate to have this event in our community.
Our community was saddened to hear of the passing of Sherrill Gill from the Carley community who passed away on October 2, 2025 at Mariposa House Hospice. Sherrill was well known in the Eady and Carley communities, and also in Oro-Medonte Township. She was an active member of the Wesley-Eady United Church and was the Vice-Chair of the Carley Hall Board. Hall board members of the various Oro-Medonte community halls knew Sherrill well, as she attended and participated in our joint hall board meetings. Sherrill was very active in her community, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Our sympathies are extended to her husband, Rodney, and family.
A special Remembrance Day Service was held at St. George Anglican Church, Fairvalley on Sunday, November 16 with Bishop Riscylla Shaw of the Anglican Diocese of Toronto in attendance. Laying of wreaths by the OPP, RCMP, RCMP Veterans, Grey and Simcoe Foresters, Coldwater Legion, Oro-Medonte Township, Ontario government and Federal governments took place. A piper and trumpeter were also in attendance which made the service extra special. Thank you to all those who participated in the service and those who attended.
We have started to see Christmas bazaars and Christmas markets happening in and around our communities giving us lots of choices and lots of time to get our Christmas shopping done. It seems like Christmas comes faster and faster every year as we get older, so take advantage of these community Christmas events which also help to get you get organized and in the spirit!
The Coldwater Lions Club Santa Claus Parade will take place on Saturday, December 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the Village of Coldwater. This is always a great parade with many floats, lots of music, children, adults, and Christmas lights. So, come on out and enjoy the evening and get into the Christmas spirit!
On Saturday, December 13, starting at 7 p.m. the Eady Community Hall will be holding its “Annual Old Time Country Christmas Concert”. The Christmas Concert has not been held since the days of “Covid”, so we are excited to see it come to life again!
We have a variety of talent lined up, but we could still add a few more acts to our lineup (singing, dancing, recitations, musical instruments, skits) so if you or someone you know (any age…..small children to adults), we would love to have you on our stage. Our concert is not “professional”, so do not hang back if you feel that you aren’t good enough to perform. We would welcome your talent! Please send your name, contact information and the “type of act/s” you have to share to eadycommunityhall@gmail.com.
We are also looking for children (any age) who will participate in “the parade” at the start of the concert. Children participating in the parade are asked to be at the hall for 6:30 p.m. to get organized. The cost of admission is “free”. We will be selling tickets for some door prizes (this is one of our main fundraising events) so we hope you are able to support us with this.
Come enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate in intermission and maybe you might even meet some of your neighbours that you don’t already know. If you have any questions about the concert, please email us or phone Bonnie at 705-835-0006. We would love to hear from you!!
