EADY Community Updates and Events for April and May
by Bonnie Smith
Wow! What a winter this has been (or shall we say …spring, summer)? With barely any snow and mild, mild temperatures throughout our province, it sure has been a great winter for travelling and getting around, and not having to wear our clunky snow boots! Those of us, however, that enjoy the winter season to ski, snowboard, skate, icefish, snowplough or just take a walk in the crisp, winter fresh air have been quite disappointed in Mother Nature this year. Perhaps next winter will be a better one for these activities!
As many of you know, Brookstone Academy has been renting the Eady Community Hall for the past two years pretty much on a full-time basis. In mid-February, Brookstone Academy moved to a new location, located in the community of Craighurst. The Eady community, and the Eady Community Hall Board wish them much success in their new location.
As a result of Brookstone moving to a new location, the Eady Community Hall is now available for daily or evening rentals again! Whether you are celebrating a first year birthday or a 90 year birthday, an anniversary, a wedding, or anything else, our beautiful two storey 100+ year old hall with a stage and microphone system, a large basement with tables and chairs and a kitchen, is available for rent for such occasions. Wanting to teach a class, hold a seminar, have a dance, or hold a meeting? Again, our beautiful hall can accommodate you. For more information and to inquire about availability, please email eadycommunityhall@gmail.com or call Oro-Medonte Township at 705-487-2171, ex. 2133.
Easter is around the corner and many bunny rabbits have been seen in the area already! Personally, I’m not too pleased with the little bunnies this year because they have completely destroyed my rose bushes this winte,r as they have eaten the bark almost to the ground. I’m hoping though, that the roses will come back in the spring, but who knows? Perhaps I will find some Easter eggs buried amongst my bushes this spring.
Easter services at St. George’s Anglican Church, Fairvalley (66 Fairvalley Church Road – Line 11 N just south of the Mount St. Louis Rd. and north of the Warminster Sideroad) are as follows:
- Maundy Thursday service (March 28th) – 7:00 pm with the Rev. Dr. David Hardy;
- Good Friday service (March 29th) – 10:30 am with the Rev. Sue Curtis, and
- Easter Sunday service (March 31st) – 10:30 am with the Rev. Dr. Ray Porth.
All are welcome to attend.
Easter morning “Sunrise” service is being held on Sunday, March 31st at 6:30 am on the Moonstone Hill (and 9th Line) – Moonstone Rd. just west of Hwy. 400. Following this service, an Easter Breakfast at the Coldwater United Church at 7:15 am will take place. All are welcome.
The Wesley-Eady United Church will be holding a “Sweet and Sour Sausage Take Out Supper” on Monday, April 8. Tickets are $15 each. For tickets, please contact Helen Bell at 705-835-6322 or Joanne Richardson at 705-345-1896.
Condolences are extended to many families in our surrounding communities this month who lost a loved and cherished member of their family and whom many of us in the Eady community know:
- To Dollard Webb and family on the passing of Dollard’s wife, Linda (Yule), who passed away on November 25, 2023 at Royal Victoria Health Centre in Barrie. The Webb and Yule families are long time residents of the Carley/Mount St. Louis area.
- To Jayne Edgely and family on the passing of Jayne’s husband, Peter at Royal Victoria Health Centre on January 4, 2024. The Edgely family have lived in the Moonstone area for many years.
- To Doug Binns and family on the passing of his wife, Joan who passed away at home on January 25, 2024. Joan and Doug lived in Grenard and attended the Eady-Wesley United Church since moving to this area several years ago.
- To Janet Coombs and family on the passing of Janet’s husband, Jim (Jimmy) who passed away on January 19, 2024. Janet and her husband are long time residents of Matchedash.
- To the Gill families on the passing of their father/brother, Harold. Harold passed away at the Hillcrest Village Care Centre in Midland on January 24, 2024. Harold has lived in the Moonstone/Coldwater area his entire life and for many years was involved with the Coldwater Fall Fair and the former St. Mathias Anglican Church in Coldwater.
- To the Wiggins family on the passing of their mother Wilma (nee Sallows) who passed away at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on February 24, 2024. Wilma lived on Line 12 in the early years of her life and later moved to Warminster where she lived for many years raising her family before moving to Orillia.
Our sympathies are extended to each of these families.
