Eady Events

This morning, I sit gazing out the window at the vast endless sea that lies ahead of me and listening to the sound of the massive waves crashing the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. Together with the strong winds howling outside the windows there is a calmness that reminds me of the beauty that expands our great country.
From coast to coast to coast, our country offers lovely, picturesque views wherever the eye takes you, whether that is on a ski slope in the Rocky Mountains in B.C., in a winery in the Niagara escarpment, fishing in the Northwest Territories, vacationing at a cottage in Georgian Bay or the Muskoka’s, or touring the beautiful Maritime provinces. All of them have a quaintness all their own and each of them has a story to tell that will provide an everlasting memory to you, alone, that no-one else can duplicate. No, I am not in Oro-Medonte today, but instead only a few steps away from the seashore near Kensington, PEI.
This summer I have had the wonderful pleasure of re-visiting our east coast provinces, including Newfoundland, and have been reminded constantly of the beauty that our country offers. It also reminds me of the enormous size of our country, when it takes several hours to cross a single province. During this time away from home, I have also had the great pleasure of reconnecting with some of my long-time high school friends and we have had an awesome time!
Taking in some of the local culture and traditions of the island such as a couple of East coast ceilidh’s, swimming in the ocean, and of course, eating delicious lobster, mussels, clams, and fish…. fresh off the boat. Oh, how wonderful! I have had such a great time catching up with my friends and learning about each others’ families, and we have had so many laughs! So many laughs. Why did we wait so long to do this? I am reminded that time is short and that we need to do this more often. I don’t want this wonderful week to end.
While we are packing up today with each of us returning back to our own homes within the next few days, we will see more of this great country as we travel different roads to our destinations. Some of us will stop in and see other friends along the route, reconnecting again after many years. Some of us will do further sight-seeing along the way. For me, I will be visiting with a friend who I worked with almost 40 years ago. What a lot of chin-wagging we will be doing! And, I also will be dropping in to visit one of my relatives in Nova Scotia, soon to celebrate her 105th birthday! What wonderful memories we will all have of this vacation.
We soon will be back in the familiar territory of Oro-Medonte and Orillia area and it, too, has its own beauty that cannot be found elsewhere. It is nice to get away and see new things, and it is also nice to get back home again. However, I would recommend to everyone to get out and explore our great country… there is so much to see and learn about, and you might be surprised at what you might find!
The Eady Hall Board is holding a fiddle and square dance fundraiser on Sunday, September 29. Proceeds of this event will go towards the upkeep of the hall. While this event will be over by the time this edition comes out, the Hall Board hopes to hold more of these fiddle jams/square dances next year if this event is successful. So, stay tuned! It is a good opportunity to come and listen to some great old fashioned fiddle music and to try out your square dancing skills, or even learn some new dance moves!
St. George Anglican Church, Fairvalley, will be holding its annual Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 13 at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
