Summertime 2024
Community Happenings

by Bonnie Smith

My goodness, how time flies!  Spring has sprung, and the summer heat is here! Our flowers and grass have had an abundance of rain to get them growing this spring and it has made everything very green and looking lovely. Unfortunately, the farmers are a bit behind this year in their planting due to the amount of rain we have had, but hopefully that will improve shortly.

On May 18th, Ralph and Sandy Price hosted their third annual “Fiddle Fest” at the Eady Community Hall which was, once again, a fundraiser for COPE service dogs.  Quite a  number of musicians were in attendance to help “fiddle away” the afternoon, accompanied by guitar players, a keyboard player, a constantia player, and probably some other instruments that I have missed! The Craighurst Women’s Institute supplied food and drinks throughout the afternoon which was a fundraiser for them as well. At last count, over $4,450 was raised for COPE service dogs. Even a few of the service dogs were up on the dance floor. Congratulations Ralph and Sandy for a very successful and fun afternoon!

Our sympathies are extended to John Hipwell and his family on the passing of John’s wife, Mary Anne Martin-Hipwell on May 5, 2024. John has been a long-time member of the St. George Anglican Church, Fairvalley congregation, and both he and Mary Anne are well known in the area.

The Annual Cemetery Decoration Service at St. George Anglican Church, Fairvalley will be held this year on Sunday, July 21st at 2:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.  The service will be outside, weather permitting. While chairs will be provided, please feel free to bring your own lawn chair if you prefer. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved into the church.

The Eady Community Hall Board is looking for program ideas that you would like to see being held in our community hall. If you have an idea or know of someone who could run such a program (including yourself), please reach out to one of our Hall Board members to let them know (Margo and Peter VanMuyen, Bill and Lillian Gray, Linda Wilson, Greg and Tassie Sadowski, Allan Walker, Lacey Dale, or Bonnie Smith) or drop us a line at eadycommunityhall@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you.

In addition, if you are interested in renting our beautiful two storey 100+ year old hall for an event such as a special birthday or anniversary, a wedding, a baby or wedding shower, a fundraising event, or anything else, our hall with a stage and microphone system, a large basement with tables and chairs and a kitchen for basic use, is available for rent for such occasions.

Wanting to hold a seminar, have a dance, or hold a meeting? Again, our beautiful hall can accommodate you. For more information and to inquire about rates and availability, please email eadycommunityhall@gmail.com or call 705-835-0006 and ask for Bonnie, or call Oro-Medonte Township at 705-487-2171, ext. 2133 (Hall rentals).

If you have anything you would like to share with our readers, e.g.  a special celebration, a vacation that you took with your family, or an upcoming event that you would like mentioned in this column, please contact me at 705-835-0006.  Our Eady readers, along with readers from our surrounding communities would love to hear from you!

I hope everyone has a safe, fun and happy summer ahead!
