Eady News

by Bonnie Smith

The signs of grass showing underneath the snow may finally be a sign that spring may be around the corner, after a very long, cold and blustery winter!  I’m sure that our winter sports enthusiasts would have loved this winter with so much snow and such a long season, but many of us are very much done with it for another year!

Since I did not submit an article for the January issue, I did want to thank all those who attended, and especially those who participated, in our Annual Old Time Country Christmas Concert that was held on December 13 at Eady Hall.  Although it was a very stormy night, there were about 75 people in attendance.

There was a wide variety of music, solo’s, skits, recitations, and especially lots of laughs! Thank you also to all the people and businesses who donated gifts towards our raffle and to the Eady-Grenard Women’s Institute for the children’s treats. If you weren’t able to make it out for this, perhaps you will be able to attend our next Christmas Concert in December!

This Spring, the Eady Community Hall is pleased to announce its 2nd Spring Speaker Series which will run each Thursday afternoon from April 9 through May 7 beginning at 2 p.m. at Eady Community Hall.  We have a great variety of general interest speakers lined up and we hope you will come out and join us for a cup of coffee, a chance to meet with neighbours, and listen to some great information that we hope will be of interest to you.  Admission is free, although donations are always welcomed! All proceeds will go towards upkeep of our hall.

Following is a list of the topics our speakers will be speaking on:

Taivi will share how to effectively transfer wealth to the next generation while being charitable at the same time.

The Owl Pen, Ken Wells and Lucille Oille

May 7 — Come learn about some local Oro-Medonte history.  Ken and Lucille moved to Creighton (Line 10N) in the mid 40’s and resurrected a log house which was later named The Owl Pen.  Ken wrote a series of books full of short stories about life and farming in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s and Lucille made wood cut prints to illustrate Ken’s books. Ralph Price (avid reader/history buff), Ellen Blaubergs (volunteer at Coldwater Museum who has a lot of knowledge about The Owl Pen), and Gillian Lowry (local artist with an interest in the wood cut prints that Lucille made), will present their knowledge on The Owl Pen for us.

We hope you will be able to join us for some or all of these presentations!
