The Couchiching Conservancy is proud to announce it is working to protect its 58th property! Nestled south of the Black River, this remarkable landscape features a rich blend of granite outcrops, lush forests, and vibrant sedge marshes, making it a vital part of our region’s ecological fabric. Home to numerous Species at Risk, this property represents a critical step in safeguarding natural habitats for future generations.
To bring this conservation project to life, we are raising the funds needed by the end of January. Your support is essential! Make a lasting impact by donating today. Fifth Sunday Fiddle Jam/Dance/Square Dance
—submitted
There are four months in each year, when there are five Sundays. Historically in our area there have been regular monthly music jams/dances on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays, but nothing on a 5th Sunday. For the people who like these events, there was no place to go on a 5th Sunday.
That changed on September 29th, when a 5TH Sunday Fiddle jam/dance/square dance was held at the EADY COMMUNITY HALL. It was organized by Ralph and Sandy Price (Ralph is a square dance caller and Sandy plays “old time” fiddle) along with the members of the Eady Hall Board. It was a “fundraiser” for the Hall, with all proceeds going towards Hall maintenance and improvements.
An enthusiastic crowd of in excess of 50 musicians, dancers and listeners attended and over $300 was raised for the Hall. A pleasant and enjoyable afternoon for those in attendance and the consensus was “when is the next one”?
The next 5th Sunday is December 29th, but as that is in the middle of the Holiday Season as well as the time of year when the rural weather can be quite unpredictable, there are no plans to hold an event in December. Following that, the next 5th Sunday is March 30th, 2025 and the focus is to hold the next FIDDLE JAM/DANCE/SQUARE DANCE on that date. Mark your calendars for that date and keep watch for updates.
If you want more information about the upcoming event, or fiddling and square dancing in general, Ralph & Sandy can be reached at 705-835-3159 or ralph.sandyprice@sympatico.ca.
