Message from Jill Dunlop MPP Simcoe North

As we soak up the final stretch of summer and look ahead to the vibrant colours of fall, I want to take a moment to thank the people of Simcoe North for continuing to make our community such a welcoming, resilient, and thriving place to live. I hope you’ve had the chance to enjoy our local events, parks, trails, and waterfronts that make our region so special this time of year.

This summer, our government has made important investments to strengthen communities across Ontario, including right here in Simcoe North. Through the Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone (EASE) grant, the province is investing $2.2 million to help make public spaces more inclusive and accessible. Municipalities, non-profits, and Indigenous governing bodies are eligible for up to $60,000 to improve community facilities and ensure everyone can fully participate in local life.

In addition, we’re committed to ensuring students in Ontario receive the best education possible. That’s why we’ve announced a $55.8 million investment to train up to 2,600 new teachers by 2027. This will help address staffing shortages, reduce class sizes, and support student achievement from the ground up.

We also recognize the unique needs of rural communities like many across Simcoe North. That’s why we’ve launched the Rural Ontario Development Program – ROD (formerly the Rural Economic Development Program – RED), with a $20 million investment over the next two years. This initiative will help rural municipalities attract business investment, create good local jobs, and build stronger, more sustainable economies.

As summer winds down and we prepare for a busy fall, I encourage everyone to take time to enjoy the outdoors, support local businesses, and connect with neighbours. Thank you for all you do to make Simcoe North a great place to call home. Wishing you a safe, healthy, and inspiring season ahead!
