Coldwater Communique

As usual, Coldwater Lions helped our town celebrate 2024 and welcome 2025 with a bang! The annual free skate and fireworks were held on New Years’ Eve, and as always were very well attended.

January was a relatively slow month, and plans for upcoming events are just beginning to surface, but there are a few of note.

On February 15, the annual Frosty Fun Fest at the Mill will be held from 9 am to 1 pm.

This fun, family day features a number of competitive events such as Nail Driving, Log Sawing, Ball Toss, four-person ski race and relay. To enter these events, sign up is from 9-9:30 am at the Mill. There will be a medal presentation at 12:30 pm.

The Severn Township Public Library welcomes two authors this month. On February 22, at 1 pm, noted historian Ted Barris will speak at a very special free event. Ted is the author of “Battle for the Atlantic” and a number of other award-winning war histories. All are welcome!

On February 28, author Robert Rotenberg will be at the library. Robert has been our guest before, and his book, “What We Buried” was our number one circulated Adult Fiction book of 2024. His new book, “One Minute More” is an exciting addition to his series, set in Toronto. This event is also free.

Come out and support these Canadian writers!

There will be a March Break program this year at the Library for school-aged children. Keep checking the Library Facebook page as plans firm up, but Slime will likely be involved!

There are several new businesses in town, one is Ms Kat’s Tearoom at 13 Coldwater Road. This is a place to get your tea leaves read while enjoying a hot beverage.

The old “Dial-a-Movie” and the Mill restaurant are welcoming new businesses as well. At time of publication, names could not be verified, but two new eating establishments will be joining our already stellar lineup.

For updates, most of the downtown businesses have pages on Facebook that give very current updates. It’s a good idea to check these out.

Remember to support the Food Bank at Coldwater United Church, and the Caring Closet at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. These services are vital to many people in our community who need a hand up.

Have a safe, sunny winter, and stay warm!
