Hawkestone Happenings

Activities for all ages including yoga, kids, Nia, singing, cornhole and more!
— by Rebecca Rodgers

As we welcome the warmer days of spring, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on a fantastic winter season at the Hawkestone Community Hall. A huge thank you to our incredible rink team, whose dedication kept the ice in prime condition for our community skaters. Special appreciation goes to Jim Marlow for his leadership and to Tony Bosma, Darin Radford, Jim Fowler, and Karen Marlow for their ongoing commitment to making winter skating such a joy for everyone.  We also suspect that Jim Marlow is the quiet force behind keeping the Hall entryway clear of snow—thank you!

One additional round of applause for our incredible emergency shoveling team who stepped up after one of the season’s biggest snowfalls.  A big thank you to Ingrid and Rob Barron, Becca Rodgers, Margo and Steve Semple, and all the other unsung heroes who lent a hand. Your community spirit and willingness to help in a pinch are truly appreciated!

And we need a heartfelt shout-out to our regular program facilitators for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming space for all who visit the Hall.

Our newly-formed Children’s Programming Committee has already hosted two fantastic events. Thanks to Warren and Barb Ryckman for offering hot chocolate and goodies to many families who attended the Family Skate in February. Our Scales Nature Park session was an absolute hit—snakes slithering over delighted participants made for an unforgettable experience!

If you have an idea for a children’s event (e.g., a craft session, kite-building, bike safety, etc.), we’d love to hear from you! Contact hawkestonehall@gmail.com and the committee can offer support and initial start-up funds.

The Hall continues to be a hub of activity, with pickleball, yoga, mindful fitness, Nia, pipe band rehearsals, choir practice, sewing groups, and much more. As we transition into spring, we have an exciting lineup of special events for you to enjoy!
