Local events,
an anniversary get-together,
and musings on fall-time

And just like that, we are in the second-last issue of our 20th anniversary year! We had a lovely celebration with some friends, family, writers, and advertisers in mid-September at the Hawkestone Community Hall. We ate some delicious food provided by Jennifer Alton, who also provided food for a tenth anniversary bash at Oro Memorial Park, and enjoyed sharing memories of the last 20 years, in the place where it all started: Hawkestone, where Steve and I met and both did some work for what was then North Simcoe Community News. We hope you enjoy the photos of this fun afternoon!

Fall has started off busily, with tons of events, including all the local Fall Fairs, and there are loads more to come. Read all about them in all of our correspondents’ columns, as well as our featured content from Mariposa House Hospice, The Orillia Opera House, Arts Orillia, Mariposa Arts Theatre, Orillia Lake Country, Images Thanksgiving Studio Tour, and the Township of Oro-Medonte. Also don’t forget to look at our community calendar to see what’s coming up, and submit your own events there, so others can be “in the know”! There is so much to see and do in our area, do get out and support all this lovely talent as much as you can!

We have a fun contest this month, sponsored by local artist and woodturner Xavier Fernandes. Win a limited edition, numbered and signed, one-of-a-kind Memories of Mariposa bowl, hand turned by Xavier…and all you have to do is spot the Mariposa logos in this issue. Full contest details are here. Good luck!

To me, fall always signals the start of a new year, with school starting and the change of the seasons. It’s a time to reflect as the days grow shorter and we move indoors more and more. Every year brings changes, and I can see it in friends and family, with new babies, new housing, new people in our lives. Embrace that change, or simply get used to it, and welcome the fall colours and more temperate weather in this neck of the woods at this time of year.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. We are thankful for you, our readers, writers, and advertisers, and all who have been with us over this past 20 years. We hope to continue on for another 20, and take you with us! See you in Simcoe North!

LOOKING BACK!
