Miss Jenn’s Kitchen Fun

Pizza is always a fan favourite and at Youth Leadership Camps of Canada we make huge quantities. Here’s a quick basic lean dough recipe you can make or better yet teach your children to make it. Allow them to be part of the process, give them options and have fun!

Pizza
1 cup lukewarm water (about 110 to 115 degrees)
1 pouch of yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tbsp oil
Approximately 3 cups all purpose or bread flour (if I have it on hand I sometimes use a half cup of whole wheat flour and a little less white.)

Temp water by feel or with a thermometer in a bowl.
Add yeast and allow to foam slightly.
Add sugar and oil and dissolve.
Add salt and 2 cups of the flour.
Slowly add remaining flour until dough is starting to form a ball.
Knead for about 5 minutes (or dough hook in mixer can be used, but I find kneading therapeutic!)
Grease bowl and turn dough ball to coat. Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
Punch down dough to deflate.
Stretch, roll or shape dough to desired size.
Top with the sauce of choice. Tomato, white sauce(bechamel), the choices are endless. I have used a pineapple salsa and topped it with jerk chicken, yum!
Topping are only limited by your imagination, as is the cheese.
Bake in preheated 450 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Enjoy!
