Digressions by D’reen
— by Doreen Uren Simmons
Hi there: Well now…wasn’t that a lovely summer…so deserved and earned. You remember, those three days before the long weekend. We nearly got our dear neighbour to install the air conditioner in the window. Something prevented us, oh, I know, he was away. Well, the furnace is on again and I have to install the humidifier again and put away the dehumidifier. Now…where did I put the winter coats? Oh dear…
I must say the garden flowers are handling this weather much better than I am. The blooms actually last longer. They creep out and then go on hold and the peep out and then close and the greens, the lovely, lovely greens, persist. Isn’t green the most beautiful colour in the world?!!
Fortunately, I have been too busy to brood about the weather, contrary to the above rant. I actually did three concerts in three weeks, which is a lot of notes for an aging almost-90-year-old brain to handle. One was here in our home, with a gorgeous old friend/bass-baritone. We had eighteen family/friends comfortably seated and enraptured. The other two were more ‘professional’ and also well-received, but I must say I needed time to recuperate and my dear partner doesn’t need to hear any more piano practising for awhile!
What else? Well, the daily inspection of the garden, in a heavy sweater, keeps me guessing. Funny how the memory fades from year to year. Is that gonna be?….where are the?…Only definite thing is no herbs at ALL!! The frosts and flooding totally destroyed them, but, easily replaceable. Otherwise, we gaze out the windows, longing to sit outside, and promising to never complain about the heat again! Will that promise be kept? Stay tuned!
Meanwhile, let my love keep you warm. I send it …D’reen
