Coldwater Communique

— by Lois Rooney-Giurin

As always, Coldwater has been a busy spot.

Usually, this column lists the upcoming events in Coldwater but sometimes there are more that come up after this paper goes live. This time, let’s talk about what’s happening around the town. A list of websites to watch will be provided – and keep checking your favourite Facebook pages over the summer for the latest updates and new events as they happen.

If you haven’t been to Coldwater’s downtown core in awhile, there are some new offerings!

Harbour Seafood and Main Street Deli opened on April 11. Delicious fresh seafood and deli sandwiches, homemade salads, meats and cheeses are on offer, and all agree, are delicious!

Check out Crafty You Healing Sanctuary, which opened officially on April 26. This tiny space has something for everyone with over 25 vendors showing a variety of merchandise from fabric arts to resin creations, jewelry, rocks and crystals and more. And if you’re missing your Red Shed days, they are also among the vendors at Crafty You.

The patio at Em’s is ready for guests with umbrellas and wisteria, and all of the stores are ready with treasures for you to take home.

If you haven’t been to the Coldwater Mill, you are missing out! There are gorgeous quilts, interesting and informative displays, and a lovely local artisan boutique. As always, there will be a Farmers’ Market on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Thanksgiving. Eat local! Eat fresh!  www.coldwatermill.com

A day at the Coldwater Canadiana Museum is always a good day! This is an excellent family outing and it’s close by, and open now and throughout the summer. www.coldwatermuseum.com

The Coldwater BIA is again busy planning summer events. The Duck Race was on Saturday, May 31, followed by the Community Garage Sale on June 7. June 28 will kick off Canada Day celebrations in the Village. A new addition to the roster is the Magical World of Faeries on August 15, followed by the Magical World of Witchcraft and Wizardry on August 16. www.coldwatervillage.ca

The Severn Library in Coldwater will be hosting the TD Summer Reading Program, and as part of that, everyone is welcome to attend a presentation by Scales Nature Park on Wednesday, July 16 at 1 p.m. at the Library. This event is free. www.coldwaterlibrary.on.ca

If hiking, cycling, biking or that kind of thing is what you enjoy during the summer months, check out the trail maps and other resources provided free of charge by Simcoe County. Free brochures are available at the Severn Library in Coldwater, and at other locations in the Village.

There’s a lot happening! Hope to see you there.
