Warminster Write-Up

—by Hillary Handy

We left the last issue with a brief update that we have finally received our stop light! It is such a wonderful addition to our community. With mixed opinions and reviews on the situation, the safety improvements are quite evident, and the majority of community members are pleased. This will be incredibly beneficial for road safety as we transition to winter.

Looking back at this fall season, it was a beautiful fall indeed! Windy Ridge Farm was open to the public for apple picking. Those were the best apples I ate all season! A stone’s throw from Warminster in Moonstone, we enjoyed riding the chairlift at Mount Saint Louis during their annual Ski Swap. It was so beautiful to see our region from such a high altitude, amidst all the changing fall leaves. Halloween was fun! With mild temperatures and periods of rain, it was a strange and soggy night. But the children had so much fun, and seeing everyone out and about fostered a great sense of community.

The school hosted a Halloween Dance where sweets and treats were sold in support of the Grade 8s End of the Year Trip. The kids sure love dressing up and it was fun for all ages. Grades 3 and 4 enjoyed an educational field trip to the Royal Ontario Museum. It was an incredible day of learning and a wonderful opportunity to be able to visit Toronto.

Switching gears to the Christmas season…

Warminster School Council hosted a Holiday Vendor Market once more at the end of November! 50 vendors had an assortment of incredible homemade products that offered shoppers some great gifting ideas. They also hosted a Big Box of Cards fundraiser and a Domino’s Pizza Night. The goals of the Council this year are to raise funds to help subsidize field trips, making them more accessible and affordable, as well as supporting technology purchases and the arts. The School Council is currently collecting items for the Community BBQ and Silent Auction happening on June 5, 2025. It may seem early, but luck favours the prepared! If you are a small business and wish to donate a product or service for the Silent Auction, please connect with me- hillaryhandy@gmail.com.

The Warminster Santa Claus parade is happening on Saturday, December 14 at 2 pm. We are thankful to Hayden Durocher of Duro Tech Design for taking on this project again and leading the town as we wait for Santa to arrive. There is a new route this year along Warminster Sideroad, then to the Cheslock Crescent route, along Hwy 12 and dipping over Preston Ave and ending at the school. We can’t wait for this fun, family tradition to continue.

Our neighbours in Coldwater will have Santa visit the weekend before on December 7, 2024 at 5:30 pm. Santa is certainly a busy guy this time of year!

We look forward to what this wintery season will bring and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
