Warminster Write-Up
—by Hillary Handy
Stop the presses! The long-awaited traffic light in Warminster is here! Hooray! Please drive and walk with caution as everyone gets used to this important safety measure. Thank you to everyone who was instrumental in making it happen!
Hello Fall! We’ve been waiting for you!
The return of autumn has brought the return to school. Warminster Elementary is hustling and bustling with activity. A new batch of Junior Kindergartens has arrived, bringing a new energy to the school. Our Grade 8s are headed to Grade 9 and the former Grade 7s are gearing up to rule the school! We wish the grads all the best as they explore high school and the cool things that come with it.
Speaking of Grade 8s, one of our students has earned a position to compete at the World Dance Cup in Burgos, Spain in 2025. Emily competed earlier this summer in Toronto at the World Performers Canada event and earned the position to join the tap team. She is super excited about this opportunity!
Five local dancers from the Mariposa Dance Company were selected to join this traveling team. The group has begun doing various fundraisers to help off-set the costs of this endeavor, which is roughly $6200 per dancer. They will be running ongoing bottle drives as one of their efforts. We are so proud of Emily and look forward to learning about her adventures and helping her along the way! If you are interested in supporting the team, learn more by connecting via their Facebook group “Dancing To Spain”.
Some Warminster locals organized some fall vendor shows that have already come and gone. But they have more up their sleeves in the future. Check out the Orillia Mom 2 Mom Sale as well as Bare Canvas Events for upcoming shows and events around our region and even further south.
It feels too soon to be discussing Halloween, but soon enough, it will be here. The school usually puts on some themed events, like a costume dance, which is sure to bring smiles and fun! We will be heading to Hewitts Farm Market soon to grab our pumpkins. Halloween is always a special night because you can connect with all your neighbours. It’s great to see the kids running amuck in the spirit of candy collection.
School Council is in the works again and the team has some great ideas to help foster a sense of community and support school initiatives. One event is already gearing up and that is the Warminster Holiday Vendor Market happening on November 23 from 9 am to 1 pm. The council is currently accepting vendors for this event. The cost to participate is $30 with contribution to the school’s future Silent Auction. Connect with Rebecca for more details: harjupanula@yahoo.ca. We look forward to seeing what will come in, this school year.
Wishing you all a wonderful fall season as we prepare for Thanksgiving and Halloween! We can’t wait to see those Trick-or-Treaters running around town in their adorable costumes.
