Warminster Write-Up
—by Hillary Handy
School is back in session! The children of Warmie enjoyed summer, scooting around town and being young, wild, and free.
The biggest news we can share about our little neck of the woods is we received our first sidewalk! We are a rural town that historically did not have any sidewalks, even in the newer subdivisions. Warminster Side Road, school side, has received a stretch of sidewalk from the intersection to the school. This is a huge improvement in accessibility and safety for our community. The plan is to have it extend down from XBHL and the park. This project is still underway causing some considerable ‘traffic’ (for these parts) in the morning and afternoon commute. We will be thrilled once the roads are paved and ready to roll once more.
In Warminster Elementary School news, we are thrilled to welcome Mrs. McLean and Mrs. Scicluna back to our hallways. We look forward to the musical magic, joy and expertise you both bring. Ms. Murray also has joined the team and we are grateful you are here!
School Council held its first meeting of the year. If you missed it, you can still join in future sessions. Anyone is able to attend a School Council Meeting as a non-voting member. The voting members have already been decided. The group will be planning a variety of fundraisers and events for the coming year, so stay tuned for those!
Cross Country running practices have commenced and the students participated in the Terry Fox Run, along with recognizing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Fall is always a busy but fun time of year.
In September, MPP Jill Dunlop and MP Adam Chambers hosted a Community BBQ at Hewitt’s Fun Farm. (On a technicality, this is Severn Township, but we call it our own.) So that brought a bit of traffic to the streets of downtown Warminster. While we lay claim to Hewitt’s, we also have some incredible farm stands and orchards in our area! Windy Ridge Farms hosted apple picking once more, which was a fun and delicious outing. We also enjoyed visiting Lolo’s Farmstand along Highway 12 for local produce and incredible baked goods!
In Township news…make sure to exercise your right to vote in our next Municipal Election. You can vote online, via phone or in person at Voter Help Centres at the Township Administration Centre and Simcoe Woods Community Centre. The voting period is from October 14 to October 26th.
We look forward to Halloween fun coming up in October and connecting with our neighbours and the community kids. Until then, keep it real, Warminster.
