Warminster Write-Up
— by Hillary Handy
As we think back to the last month of school, June was a busy one! Several classes enjoyed visits to the Coldwater Bowling Centre to wind-down the year. Students were recognized at the Character Award Assembly. We have some incredible little humans in our community, showcasing their unique skills and qualities.
Of course, our Graduating Grade 8 class enjoyed their commencement evening. As per usual, it was the hottest night of the year, but the heat did not stop the students from shining so brightly! 19 fantastic students are headed to Grade 9. They will be missed so much by all the younger students who looked up to them! The students were honoured in the classic tradition of a “Clap Out”, where staff and students lined the hallways, offering cheers, high fives and applause to support the ‘big kids’ of the school. An emotional and heart-felt send off, to say the least.
We are also sad to see some students depart for Horseshoe Heights Public School in the fall, with the new boundary changes in our region. We know there are big things ahead of these students and Warminster will miss them dearly.
School Council hosted the annual Community BBQ and Silent Auction before the school year ended. It was a fantastic event and everyone came out to participate. Many thanks to the Coldwater Lions Club, the OPP, Oro-Medonte Fire & Emergency Services, the Orillia Public Library and Max 89.1 FM for attending as special guests. The school was proud to raise over $4000- the school’s biggest fundraiser and FUNraiser!

Construction continues at the highly anticipated ball hockey rink on Highway 12 and Warminster Side Road. The timeline for completion is unclear at this time, but everyone is pumped for this new addition to our area! Danny McHugh park is bustling in the summer season. Baseball, basketball, pickleball, and the park are fun places for kids to play and hang out. Occasionally, you’ll hear the tinkling of a jingle in the distance, indicating the Ice Cream Truck is making its rounds. Summer memories in the making.
An update from Emily Horne and her trip to Burgos, Spain for the World Dance Cup. Emily and her dance team mates Shelby and Ady brought home a bronze medal for their Showstopper number “Inside Out”. This was out of 29 countries. Well done, girls!
More to come as it happens in our neck of the woods!
