Tap into Maple

There’s a moment in Orillia and Lake Country when winter begins to loosen its grip and something sweeter takes over. Sap starts to run. Steam rises from sugar shacks. The air smells of wood smoke and promise. And suddenly maple is not just a flavour, it becomes an experience for all of the senses.

From March 6 to April 5, Tap into Maple invites you to fall in love with local in the most delicious and Canadian way. Across Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Severn, Rama First Nation and beyond, maple producers, artists, makers and restaurants come together to celebrate a tradition deeply rooted in the land that is still very much alive today.

The story begins where it always should: at the source. Local maple producers open their doors, welcoming visitors into sugar bushes and to their road stands where generations of knowledge meet modern craft. Here maple syrup is not rushed. It is gathered, boiled, watched and perfected; a slow process that rewards patience. Conversations pass on stories and teach new understandings, tastings happen, and suddenly maple syrup feels like a personal connection to its roots and its makers.

From there the experience branches out. Tap into Maple showcases the many forms maple can take beyond the bottle. Artisan markets and local shops feature syrup and maple made or maple inspired goods, from edible treats to handcrafted art, each piece reflecting creativity, care and connection to place and its makers.

In kitchens across Orillia and Lake Country, chefs take over the narrative. Restaurants, cafes, and breweries lean into the season weaving maple into menus in unexpected ways. Sweet meets savoury, comfort meets creativity, dining becomes a new taste discovery, a reminder that local flavour tastes better when it is rooted in the region.

In Rama First Nation maple’s deeper story comes into focus. Indigenous knowledge and cultural connections to the land remind visitors that maple has long been a gift, not a trend. The experience becomes richer, more meaningful and grounded in respect, history and community.

What makes Tap into Maple special is its balance. It is festive without being overwhelming, educational without being formal, it invites curiosity, conversation and connection, between people, places and producers.

By the end of your experience at Tap into Maple, you will have tasted more than just maple, you will have tasted a true piece of Orillia and Lake Country itself. What began as a seasonal event has become a collection of moments: a warm sugar shack, a thoughtfully crafted dish or beverage, a piece of art you fell in love with, a conversation that will remain with you.
