Warminster Write-Up

School News, Summer BBQ and Silent Auction

—by Hillary Handy

Warminster sure has WARMed up! There’s been quite a bit happening in these parts.

The whole town came out to play for the school’s Spring Vendor Sale at the end of April. A lovely community event that offered shoppers the chance to find the perfect gift in time for Mother’s Day. It is always so encouraging to see the community unite in support of the school. There were so many awesome artisans and creatives there, including some young entrepreneurs. Many thanks to Rebecca Harjupanula for organizing the event for the school.

Kids are excited for the warmer days ahead, especially as we inch closer to summer (and summer vacation). There have been many field trips such as the ROM, the Elmvale Zoo, and Coldwater Bowling, to name a few, which have been so much fun as the school year winds down. There have also been some dance performances and the highly anticipated spring concert. Families love to see their kids perform on stage. Students have also been working alongside Uplifting Blessings to contribute notes of encouragement to their kits. It has been great for them to work on their letter writing and contribute to a community effort.

The pickle ballers are in full force at Danny McHugh Park. The Township of Oro-Medonte has painted pickleball court lines on the concrete pad so now people are bringing their own pop-up nets and paddles and having a ball.

Warminster Soccer is back in action! Wednesday nights bring the most traffic this town sees all week and it feels like everyone in the area shows up for soccer nights. Warminster Soccer Club is run 100% by volunteers who have a heart for kids and the community. It’s a wonderful tradition that is still so successful thanks to volunteers who make the world go round.

The school’s annual Community BBQ and Silent Auction is on June 6th. We will have to report on the success of this event in our next issue. Many thanks to the small businesses and community members who contributed items to the Silent Auction. It is a testament to their community-minded hearts.

A few residents have organized a Community Garage Sale which will be happening on Saturday, June 15th. There are several streets that are participating on both sides of Warminster Sideroad and both sides of Hwy 12. So, you will just have to drive around our little hamlet to score all the good deals that day!

More to come from Warminster soon as we get ready for summer fun!
