Carley Hall

—by Kelly Skinner-Meyer

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and a good start to 2025. So far the winter has not disappointed if you’re an outdoor enthusiast. The snow has been plentiful for the skiers and snowmobilers. I love the good old-fashioned winter with lots of snow, sledding down the hills and building snowmen. However, snow shoveling is not as fun and we certainly have done a lot of that!

The New Year 2025 is a time to reflect and think of resolutions or changes you may want to make to your life. After a health scare for me in October 2024, I’ve decided to try and minimize my stress and concentrate on the here and now and not the “what ifs”.

I also will try to make the most of every day: “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.” (Albert Einstein) It sounds easy enough but in practice it takes a concentrated effort not to slip back into old patterns. I’m also focused on heart healthy eating and exercising more. I have even taken up meditation in the morning to clear my head and start each day new.

My husband and I have plans to join a pool and start swimming, the best exercise to help the body renew gently. I guess I’m over sixty now and things start to ache a bit more and unexpected health issues rear their head. But it doesn’t mean you stop doing what you love, you may just do it a little slower and methodically. I look forward to 2025 and what it might bring.

The Carley Community Hall has been quiet, but busy with the replacement of our oil furnace heating system to a new propane tank and furnace. The Township is wanting to go “green” and Carley had the last remaining oil tank in the Halls, so it was replaced.

The rentals will start picking up in 2025. We already have had inquiries for a wedding and birthday parties. Please don’t forget the Hall can accommodate 85 persons with chairs, 65 with tables and chairs, so it’s a perfect spot for your next family celebration.

We are always looking for volunteers and ways to keep the Hall active so please contact us to book your next rental or become a volunteer, at carleycommunityhall.com or call Oro-Medonte Township at 705-487-2171.

Until next time…get sledding!
