Hawkestone
Happenings

— by Rebecca Rodgers

As our wintery 2026 settles in, Hawkestone Community Hall is feeling especially grateful, resilient, and full of optimism for the year ahead. December brought with it moments of celebration, generosity, and progress – bright reminders of what makes our community so special.

After the flooding damage caused by last winter’s ice storm, we’re thrilled to share some long-awaited good news: basement renovations are officially underway – yahoo! Seeing our basement come back together feels like a real turning point, and we’re so happy to be moving forward.

Many of us also enjoyed the beautiful Hawkestone Singers concert, an inspiring and festive way to kick off the season and gather together through music.  You won’t want to miss their annual spring concert in May.

Community care was on full display thanks to our NIA movement participants, who collected an impressive amount of food and cash donations for the Orillia Sharing Place. This effort was inspired by Misha Gilbert’s yoga group, who regularly support local non-profits – wonderful examples of generosity and compassion in action.

Another bright highlight this month was the refinishing of our wood floor, generously completed by Swish Barrie. The refreshed floor looks fantastic and adds a renewed warmth to the hall.

Looking ahead to 2026, we’re excited to continue offering a wide range of regular programming for all ages and interests. These include regular NIA sessions, yoga classes, Sound Journeys, and our welcoming Thursday afternoon Social drop-in.  Keep an eye out for an occasional offering of circle dance.

We’re also happy to share some springtime news already on the calendar: our Easter Egg Hunt will be held this year on Saturday, March 28th! We look forward to welcoming families back for this much-loved community tradition. An April Sunday afternoon Euchre gathering is also in the works.

For up-to-date information on programs, rentals, and upcoming events, please visit www.hawkestone.org or get on our email list by sending a message to hawkestonehall@gmail.com.

Wishing everyone a healthy and connected winter season – we look forward to seeing you at the Hall!

LOOKING BACK!

A page from our February 2013 issue featuring some articles by regular writers. We particularly remember and miss Mary Fulton who wrote her “Over the Coffee Cups” for many years. She passed away in September 2017. She published a compilation of her stories in 2013 (still available on Amazon)
