Lightfoot Festival

Coming October 29-31, 2026 — submitted

The Lightfoot Festival is dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary legacy of Gordon Lightfoot, born and raised in Orillia, Ontario. Lightfoot first performed at the age of 12 in local venues before achieving national and international fame in the early 1960s. Through dozens of albums and hundreds of songs, he left an indelible mark on the music world.

Though Gordon sadly passed away in 2023, his legacy lives on through the Lightfoot Band and events like this festival, which celebrates his timeless contributions to the arts.

Many artists, friends and the Lightfoot family are involved in the festival, coming not only to perform Gord’s songs, but to participate in informal talks about his music and life.

Every October, Orillia comes alive with the songs that defined a generation. The Lightfoot Festival brings together world-class musicians, lifelong fans, and a community bound by a love of authentic Canadian folk and country music.

From the Lightfoot Band’s main stage performances to intimate sessions, a self-guided tour of Gord’s Orillia, and a Youth Singing Competition, there’s something for every generation.

NEW THIS YEAR!

For the first time ever, the Lightfoot Festival is hosting a Youth Singing Competition. Young performers will sing a Gordon Lightfoot song of their choosing before a panel of judges, and the top contestants will perform for none other than the Lightfoot Band themselves.

Winners will be invited to perform again Saturday afternoon at Quayle’s Brewery. Who knows, the next great Canadian artist may be found here!

The Lightfoot Festival 2026 starts on Thursday October 29 with the proclamation of Gordon Lightfoot Day at the Orillia Opera House, just before the Lightfoot Band takes the stage of the Gordon Lightfoot Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Friday afternoon the music continues with the youth singing competition, and in the evening, Choir Revolution events at Creative Nomad Studios. Saturday at 2 p.m., there will be a screening of Lightheaded: A Gordon Lightfoot State of Mind at Quayle’s Brewery in Oro-Medonte, and tribute performances all day long, also at Quayle’s.
